Installation / Setup
The installation/setup highlights for the 2-C include the following:
1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the 2-C from its packing carton and check for any shipping damage. If damaged, notify the carrier immediately. Keep the packing material for future use.
2. Mounting and Cabling: The location of the 2-C is not critical, but ensure there is adequate air circulation around the receiver.
3. Muting: The mute jack on the rear is connected to operate the receiver only when the inner-conductor is shorted to the chassis. For external muting, connect the inner-conductor to a relay contact that is open when transmitting and grounded when receiving. If not using external muting, use the provided shorting plug.
4. Anti-Vox and Sidetone: A sidetone jack is available for connection to the 2-NT Transmitter for CW monitoring. The cabling allows for sidetone operation and anti-vox input for the T-4X. Anti-vox can also be achieved with the DRAKE TR-4 Transceiver by connecting the speaker jack to a common speaker voice coil. Other transmitters with voice control can be used with proper transformer matching.
Operation
The operation of the device involves several modes of reception: Single Sideband (SSB), Continuous Wave (CW), and Amplitude Modulation (AM). For SSB reception, the user should set the function switch to “On” or “EXT MUTE” if using external muting, choose the desired band with the band switch and preselector, and adjust the RF and AF gain. The mode switch should be set to the desired sideband (LSB or USB), and the selectivity switch to 2.4. The main tuning control is used to tune in the desired signal.
For CW reception, the controls are set similarly to SSB, but the selectivity switch can be set to 2.4 or .4 for crowded conditions. The AVC can be set to “SLOW” for AVC reception or “OFF” if not desired, in which case the AF gain is fully clockwise and output volume is controlled with the RF gain.
For AM reception, the mode switch is set to AM, the selectivity switch to 4.8, and the AVC to “SLOW.” The signal is tuned with the main dial.
The device also supports accessory frequency coverage for frequencies between 3.0 and 30 MHz by using the AUX position on the slide switch and inserting the appropriate crystal in the AUX XTAL socket. The NORM position covers standard bands.
