Installation / Setup

The installation and setup highlights for the 4100 Series Digital Ohmmeters include:

1. Line Voltage/Fuse Selection: Verify the instrument is set for the proper local AC line voltage and the correct fuse is installed. For 105 to 125 VAC, use a 0.5 Amp Slo-blo fuse; for 210 to 250 VAC, use a 0.125 Amp Slo-blo fuse.

2. Bench Use: The unit comes with all necessary hardware for bench use, and no special instructions are required. Familiarity with Sections 4, 5, and 6 of the manual is recommended before operating the ohmmeter.

3. Rack Mounting: Optional brackets are available for mounting the ohmmeter in a standard 19″ equipment rack. The unit must be supported on both sides along its entire length if transported while mounted. Ensure at least 1.75 inches of blank panels are installed between this and other units in the rack for proper airflow. The ambient air temperature should not exceed 50°C during operation or 70°C when powered off.

4. Safety Precautions: Use a three-contact power plug and ensure a continuous ground connection. Special precautions are necessary when testing inductive loads like transformers to prevent damage or injury.

Safety & Warnings

The power plug must be a three-contact device and should be inserted only into a three-contact mating socket where the third contact provides a ground connection. If power is provided through an extension cable, the ground connection must be continuous. Any discontinuity in the ground lead may render the unit unsafe for use. The testing of inductive loads such as transformers requires that special precautions be taken to avoid damage to the instrument and/or injury to the operator.
