Set controls A, B, C, and D according to the set-up chart and insert the tube in the socket as indicated. Use the plate cap lead if the tube has a plate cap. Set the FUNCTION switch to CAL and adjust the CAL control so that the meter reads full scale. Then, switch to EMISSION and read the top scale on the meter. If the tube reads good emission, switch to GRID LEAKAGE and read the lower scale to check grid leakage. For the SHORT TEST, set the FUNCTION switch to SHORT TEST and rotate switch D through all positions. The short indicator light will glow if the tube is shorted or has excessive leakage. Disregard faint flashes in the short indicator. Additional tests include checking for filament sensitivity by performing a LIFE TEST. If the meter reading falls to the question mark or BAD area, the tube should be replaced.
