1. High voltage is used in the operation of the equipment, and death on contact may result if safety precautions are not observed.
2. Personnel should avoid contact with 175-volt connections or 115-volt a-c input connections when working on or near the equipment.
3. In case of electric shock, the high voltage should be shut off immediately, and the circuit should be grounded. If the high voltage cannot be turned off without delay, the victim should be freed from contact with the live conductor promptly, using a dry board, dry clothing, or other non-conductor.
4. Extreme caution should be used to avoid the resulting electric flash when cutting high-voltage wires.
5. Symptoms of electric shock include abrupt cessation of breathing, very weak or absent pulse, complete unconsciousness, and possible burns. The body may become rigid or stiff.
6. Artificial respiration should be started immediately, and a medical officer should be sent for if available. Artificial respiration should be continued without loss of rhythm.
7. The victim should be laid in a prone position, with one arm extended overhead and the other bent at the elbow to support the head. The mouth should be open, with the tongue extended.
8. An assistant should loosen tight clothing, keep the victim warm, and ensure the victim does not swallow their tongue.
9. The resuscitation operator should straddle the victim’s thighs or one leg, with arms and thighs vertical while applying pressure on the small of the victim’s back.
10. The resuscitation procedure involves exerting downward pressure for 1 second, releasing pressure, and resting for 2 seconds, repeating the cycle continuously.
