The Sencore RC115 Capacitor Analyzer service manual provides detailed instructions for setting up and operating the device, including measuring capacitance, power factor, electrolytic leakage current, insulation resistance, and turns ratio. It also includes troubleshooting tips, such as identifying issues with the tuning eye flickering due to intermittent capacitors, and provides a maintenance parts list and circuit diagrams for repair and upkeep.
Manual Overview
The Sencore RC115 Capacitor Analyzer service manual provides detailed instructions for troubleshooting, diagnostics, calibration, and board-level repairs. Troubleshooting involves observing the tuning eye’s behavior; flickering indicates an intermittent capacitor, while an open or shorted capacitor affects the eye’s position on the scale. Error diagnostics are aided by the tuning eye, which helps identify capacitor issues. Calibration requires setting the device to the correct capacitance range and adjusting for maximum tuning eye shadow. The manual specifies using direct connections for low capacitance ranges to avoid inaccuracies from test leads. For electrolytic leakage current tests, the voltage control is adjusted while observing polarity, and readings are taken from the ma d.c. scale. The manual includes circuit diagrams for understanding the internal bridge circuits and provides specifications for various capacitor types, ensuring accurate measurements and adjustments.
Quick Issues Covered
- Diagnose power-up issues with intermittent or shorted capacitors.
- Calibrate capacitance using tuning eye for maximum shadow.
- Trace circuits using detailed schematic diagrams for troubleshooting.

Operation
For safety, ensure all buttons are released before connecting components to terminals A, B, and C. Connect the analyzer to a 115V 50/60 cycle outlet and turn on the power switch.
1. Capacitance and Power Factor Measurements:
– Release all push buttons before connecting components.
– Set the RC115 to the C1 range and phase the line cord for the lowest zero capacity reading.
– Connect the capacitor to terminals B and C, observing polarity for electrolytics.
– Use the capacitance range switch and power factor switch as per the required range.
– Adjust the main dial until the tuning eye shadow opens and adjust for maximum shadow to read the capacitance value.
– For C4 and C5 scales, adjust the % P.F. control for maximum shadow.
– For electrolytic capacitors, balance the bridge and adjust the % P.F. control for maximum shadow.
– Multiply the % P.F. reading by 0.84 when using a 50 cycle line frequency.
– Deduct the capacity value of test leads from the measured value if used on C1 and C2 ranges.
– Flickering of the tuning eye indicates an intermittent capacitor; an open capacitor causes the eye to open at the low end, and a shorted capacitor at the high end.
2. Electrolytic Leakage Current:
– Set the voltage control fully counterclockwise and release all push buttons.
– Connect the electrolytic capacitor to terminals B (+) and C (-), observing polarity.
– Depress button 5 or 6 for the desired voltage range.
– Depress button 8 and adjust the voltage control to the desired voltage on the volts d.c. scale. Divide readings by 10 for the 6 – 60 volt range.
– Release button 8 and read the leakage current on the ma d.c. scale.
