Safety & Warnings

The manual provides several safety warnings and precautions:

1. High Voltage Warning: The equipment operates with high voltage, which can be fatal upon contact. Personnel should observe safety precautions to avoid death.

2. Power Supply Unit Precaution: When working on the power supply unit with the bottom plate off, be aware that d-c voltages exceed 400 volts and a-c potentials can reach up to 900 volts, which are dangerous.

3. Receiver Precaution: With the dust cover and bottom plate removed from the receiver, voltages up to 250 volts are exposed on top of the chassis and up to 400 volts underneath. Some service checks require high voltage to be on, and it is advised to have another person present who can render aid. Keep one hand in your pocket to prevent touching the electrical circuit with more than one part of the body at a time.

4. Audio-Frequency Voltage Precaution: Audio-frequency voltages up to 150 volts may be present at the 600-ohm SPKR terminals. Turn the AUDIO GAIN control to 0 before touching these terminals.

5. Connector Cable Terminal Strips Precaution: Never remove the sheet metal covers from the connector cable terminal strips without first detaching the plug from the a-c power line or disconnecting the batteries. Simply turning the OFF-ON switch to OFF is not sufficient.

6. Rescue Instructions: In case of electric shock, immediately shut off the high voltage and ground the circuits. If this is not possible, free the victim from contact with the live conductor using non-conductive materials. Avoid direct contact with the live conductor or the victim’s body. Use extreme caution to avoid electric flash.

7. Resuscitation Instructions: If resuscitation is needed, lay the victim in a prone position, ensure the mouth is open and free of obstructions, and loosen any tight clothing. Keep the victim warm and ensure they do not swallow their tongue. The resuscitating operator should straddle the victim’s thighs and apply pressure on the small of the victim’s back with the hands positioned correctly.
