Manual Overview

The Drake LBS2250 is a ten-way, 1 GHz output combiner and a two-input, ten-output L band amplified multi-switch designed for use with SCTx860 transcoders. It is powered and controlled by the PS151 power supply, which also powers the transcoders. The LBS2250 simplifies system setup by eliminating the need for separate LNB power inserters or amplifiers, offering approximately unity gain from LNB input to rear panel loop output, and a nominal 5 dB level drop to front panel outputs. Proper installation requires connecting the LBS2250 to the PS151 and ensuring transcoders are powered sequentially from left to right. Troubleshooting involves checking connections and ensuring firmware version V1.4 or later is used for compatibility. Calibration includes selecting LNB inputs through the PS151 menu. For board-level guidance, ensure correct power and signal routing to avoid cross-connections. The unit is protected against short circuits and offers selectable LNB power options. For service, contact R.L. Drake LLC with detailed problem descriptions and proof of purchase.

Quick Issues Covered

  • Diagnose power-up failures with PS151 power supply connection.
  • Identify error codes via SCTx860 menu for LBS2250 issues.
  • Calibrate LNB input selection using PS151 programming mode.

Overview

The LBS2250 is a ten-way, 1 GHz output combiner and a 2 input/10 output L band, amplified, multi-switch designed for use with SCT1860, SCT2860, SCT3860, and SCT4860 transcoders. It includes two power inserters for LNBs and is powered and controlled by the PS151 power supply. The LBS2250 provides an efficient means of connecting LNBs to transcoders, eliminating the need for separate LNB power inserters or amplifiers. It is intended to be mounted above the RMT150 rack mounting tray and offers approximately unity gain from LNB input to rear panel loop output.

Installation / Setup

The LBS2250 should be mounted just above the RMT150 rack mounting tray and connected to the PS151 power supply. The PS151 powers and controls the LBS2250 and the transcoders. Connect the PS151 to the Power Input socket on the LBS2250 and loop a power supply cable through the LBS2250 to the transcoders. The transcoders must be connected in order to the PS151 output connectors, from left to right. The LBS2250 provides power to two LNBs and eliminates the need for separate LNB power inserters or amplifiers. It has approximately unity gain from the LNB input to the rear panel loop output. The LBS2250 has a nominal 5 dB level drop from a LNB input to any of the front panel L band outputs. After installation, use the PS151 front panel to program the LBS2250 for LNB A or B. The PS151 firmware must be version V1.4 or newer to recognize the LBS2250.

Operation

The LBS2250 is a ten-way, 1 GHz output combiner and a two-input, ten-output L band amplified multi-switch. It is designed for use with SCT1860, SCT2860, SCT3860, and SCT4860 transcoders mounted in the RMT150 rack mounting tray. The LBS2250 is powered and controlled by the PS151 power supply. Installation involves connecting the PS151 to the LBS2250 and looping the power connection through the LBS2250. The LBS2250 has a nominal 5 dB level drop from an LNB input to any of the front panel L band outputs and provides approximately unity gain from an L band LNB input to the rear panel loop output. The LBS2250 eliminates the need for separate LNB power inserters or amplifiers. After installation, the PS151 recognizes the LBS2250 and allows programming for input selection between LNB A or B. Proper connection order to the PS151 output connectors is necessary, and the LBS L band outputs must connect to the transcoder input directly below the LBS output.
