Manual Overview

The Drake DRMM12 Rack Mount is designed to accommodate a Drake Power Supply and up to eight modular Drake digital headend units, optimizing space in a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Installation requires 3.5 inches of vertical space. The PS8 Power Supply, sold separately, can power up to eight modules. Installation involves securing the power supply with a ground wire and sliding it into the rack, followed by the insertion of individual modules. Proper ventilation is crucial to prevent overheating, which can degrade component performance. Troubleshooting involves removing adjacent modules to access the power supply, ensuring reconnection of power cables afterward. The manual emphasizes the importance of avoiding cable stretching or damage. For diagnostics, ensure all connections are secure and modules are properly seated. If issues persist, refer to the customer service contacts provided for further assistance.

Quick Issues Covered

  • Diagnose power-up failures with PS8 Power Supply installation.
  • Identify and resolve module disconnection issues during power supply removal.
  • Ensure proper ventilation to prevent component overheating and performance degradation.

Installation / Setup

The DRMM12 Rack Mount requires installation in a standard 19″ wide equipment rack with 3 1/2″ of vertical space. It supports a single Drake Power Supply and up to 8 modular Drake digital headend units. The PS8 Power Supply, which is sold separately, should be installed first and can power up to 8 modules. Adequate ventilation is crucial, with a recommended spacing of at least 1 3/4″ between rack units and some air movement in enclosed cabinets to prevent excessive heat, which can degrade component life and power supply performance. The installation includes securing a ground wire between the power supply and the DRMM12. After installing the power supply, individual modules can be slid into the rack and connected to the power supply using the supplied DC power cables. The AC power cord of the power supply should then be connected to an AC power source.

Operation

The DRMM12 Rack Mount supports a single Drake Power Supply and up to eight modular Drake digital headend units to configure a professional quality, modular headend system. It mounts in a standard 19″ wide equipment rack and requires 3 1/2″ of vertical rack space. After installing the PS8 Power Supply, there are 12 single-width slots available. Up to eight separate modules in combinations of 1, 2, or 3 units wide can be installed. The PS8 will power up to eight modules.

To install, first install the Drake PS8 Power Supply into the DRMM12. Next, slide individual modules (maximum of eight units) into the desired rack locations. Connect the DC power cable supplied with each module between each module and the PS8 Power Supply. Connect the AC power cord of the power supply to a source of AC power.

For removal of the Drake Power Supply from the rack, remove the module immediately adjacent to the power supply, being aware that the module power cable will become disconnected from the rear when the module is removed. Then, grasp the edge of the Drake Power Supply front panel and remove the unit from the rack. Reconnect the module power cable and replace the adjacent module as required.

Adequate ventilation is important, and rack units should be spaced apart by at least 1 3/4″ wherever possible. Some air movement is advisable in enclosed rack cabinets to prevent excessive heat, which can shorten the life of components and degrade power supply performance.

Safety & Warnings

Adequate ventilation is very important in multi-channel installations. Rack units should be spaced apart by at least 1 3/4″ wherever possible, and some air movement is advisable in enclosed rack cabinets. Excessive heat will shorten the life of components and individual module(s). Power supply performance will also be degraded without proper cooling. Avoid stretching the cables or routing them where damage to the cable is likely.
