The manual for the BKC AUTOBENCH CP-3 covers the setup and operation of the device, including connecting it to a digital multimeter (DMM) for measuring DC and AC current, as well as instructions for zero adjustment and reading current values. It also provides troubleshooting tips such as checking the battery level indicated by the red LED and ensuring proper clamping technique to avoid false readings.
Manual Overview
The Bk MANUAL provides detailed instructions for using the AUTOBENCH CP-3 current probe with a digital multimeter (DMM) for both DC and AC current measurements. The CP-3 can measure currents ranging from 2 A to 400 A with an accuracy of ±2% of the reading plus 2 A, within a temperature range of 18°C to 28°C. For troubleshooting, the manual emphasizes checking the battery status; a red LED indicates low battery, necessitating replacement for reliable measurements. Calibration involves using the ZERO ADJUST control to zero the DMM reading before measurement, especially in the presence of stray magnetic fields. The manual advises ensuring the clamp is positioned around a single conductor to avoid false readings. It also recommends using the appropriate DMM range for expected current values, as outlined in Table 1, to achieve optimal resolution. The CP-3 outputs 1 mV per Amp, and the DMM should have an input impedance of at least 10 kΩ. For board-level guidance, the manual suggests opening and closing the clamp jaws multiple times to mitigate hysteresis effects during DC measurements.

Installation / Setup
Refer to the PDF for details.
Operation
Connect the black lead of the CP-3 to the common (negative) jack of the DMM. Connect the red lead of the CP-3 to the Volts (positive) jack of the DMM. Turn on the DMM and set it for voltage measurement. Turn on the CP-3 by moving the ON/OFF switch to ON. Use the ZERO ADJUST control to obtain a reading of zero on the DMM. Open the spring-loaded clamp by pressing the trigger on the left side of the CP-3. Position the clamp around a single wire or conductor carrying the current to be measured, and release the trigger. Make sure that the clamp is completely closed. The CP-3 outputs a voltage of 1 mV per Amp of measured current.
