Manual Overview
The HP 3529A Magnetometer Probe is designed to measure magnetic fields with high accuracy, converting the Model 428A/B into a magnetometer. It is suitable for applications requiring precise measurements of magnetic field direction or magnitude. The probe’s accuracy is within ±8% of 0.1 milligauss, with a bandwidth from DC to 80 cps, and it operates effectively in both AC and DC fields. Calibration involves referencing the earth’s magnetic field, requiring a location free from magnetic interference. The probe must be oriented correctly, with the tip pointing toward the magnetic north pole for accurate readings. Mechanical zero-setting is crucial for accuracy and involves adjusting the zero control knobs. For steady fields, the probe can be used to cancel out the earth’s magnetic field using Helmholtz coils. Alternating fields are measured via the output jack using an AC voltmeter or oscilloscope, as the instrument’s meter only reads steady-state values. Proper calibration and setup ensure reliable and repeatable measurements.
