Safety & Warnings
WARNING: HIGH VOLTAGE is used in the operation of this equipment. DEATH ON CONTACT may result if operating personnel fail to observe safety precautions.
SAFETY NOTICE: Be careful when working on the power supply unit with the bottom plate off. The d-c voltages are over 400 volts, and the a-c potentials up to 900 volts. These voltages are dangerous to life. With the dust cover and bottom plate removed from the receiver, voltages up to 250 volts are exposed at several points on top of the chassis, and voltages up to 400 volts are exposed at several points underneath the chassis. Some service checks must be made inside the set with the high voltage on. When making these checks, always have present another person capable of rendering aid. Keep one hand in your pocket while making high-voltage measurements. This precaution will prevent touching the electrical circuit with more than one part of the body at one time. Audio-frequency voltages up to 150 volts may be present at the 600-ohm SPKR terminals under certain conditions. Turn the AUDIO GAIN control to 0 before touching these terminals. Never remove the sheet metal covers from the connector cable terminal strips without first detaching the plug from the a-c power line (or disconnecting the batteries, if used); turning the OFF-ON switch to OFF is not enough.

Hammarlund RA-94-A Overview
The Hammarlund RA-94-A is a classic communications receiver designed for high-performance radio signal reception. Renowned for its reliability and precision, this device is widely used by amateur radio enthusiasts and professionals for tuning into a broad range of frequencies with exceptional clarity. Its robust construction and advanced circuitry make it ideal for both field and stationary operations.
Main Features and Specifications
- Frequency coverage: 540 kHz to 30 MHz
- Multiple tuning ranges for versatile operation
- High sensitivity and selectivity for clear signal reception
- Built-in BFO (Beat Frequency Oscillator) for CW and SSB demodulation
- Analog dial with calibrated frequency markings
- External speaker and headphone outputs
- Durable metal chassis with vintage design
- Power supply: 110/220V AC or optional DC input
Basic Usage and Operation Tips
To operate the Hammarlund RA-94-A, first connect the antenna and power source. Use the main tuning knob to select the desired frequency, and adjust the band switch accordingly. Fine-tune the signal using the fine tuning control for optimal clarity. Utilize the BFO control when receiving Morse code (CW) or single sideband (SSB) transmissions. Always start with the volume control at a low setting to avoid sudden loud audio output.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance
If you experience weak reception or no audio output, check antenna connections and ensure the power supply is stable. Regularly clean the tuning dial and control knobs to prevent dust buildup. Inspect tubes and replace any that show signs of wear or failure. For persistent issues, refer to the detailed service manual for circuit diagrams and component testing procedures.
Safety Reminder
Always disconnect the receiver from the power source before performing any maintenance or internal inspection. Avoid exposure to moisture and operate the device in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Handle tubes and electronic components with care to avoid electrical shock or damage.
