Manual Overview

The Drake Model CC-1 Converter Console is designed to house three converters, a CPS-1 power supply, and an SCC-1 crystal calibrator. It currently supports 2-meter and 6-meter converters, with a third slot reserved for future expansion. The console allows users to select the desired converter or pass signals directly through for other amateur bands. Installation involves removing the chassis, securing the SCC-1 and CPS-1 components, and connecting various coaxial cables. The SC-6 converter requires specific cable connections and crystal switch engagement before securing it to the chassis. After installation, the chassis is reinserted into the case, and external connections are made to the receiver and antennas. Operation involves selecting the desired band using the front panel switch, with calibration achieved by engaging the POWER and CALIBRATE knobs. The SC-6 converter offers two crystal settings for different frequency coverages, and antenna connections must be made directly to the converters for 6 and 2-meter operations. For detailed band coverage, refer to the SC-2 and SC-6 manuals.

Quick Issues Covered

  • Diagnose power-up failures with CPS-1 power supply installation.
  • Error codes for SCC-1 crystal calibrator calibration issues.
  • Calibration adjustments for SC-6 converter frequency settings.

Overview

The DRAKE Model CC-1 converter console is designed to house three converters, a CPS-1 power supply, and an SCC-1 crystal calibrator. It supports DRAKE Model 2 meter and 6 meter converters, with an additional position for future expansion. The console allows for the selection of the desired converter or can be used for direct operation on other amateur bands. The manual covers installation and operation procedures, including the connection of components and antennas, and the use of selector switches for band operation.

Controls & Indicators

The front-panel controls of the CC-1 Converter Console include a selector switch for choosing the desired band of operation. There is a knob provided to turn the SCC-1 crystal calibrator on and off, and knobs are available to change converter crystals. The POWER knob and CALIBRATE knob can be pulled on for calibration purposes. The SC-6 converter has a 6 meter knob that allows for crystal selection, and a similar knob is available for the 2 meter operation.

Installation / Setup

To set up the CC-1 converter console, first remove the chassis from its case by taking out six screws at the bottom and sliding the chassis out from the rear. Install the SCC-1 crystal calibrator by removing its bottom cover screw, sliding it into the CC-1 chassis, and securing it with the same screw. Connect the coax cable from the terminal strip under the chassis to the SCC-1 connector marked HF. Install the CPS-1 power supply behind the SCC-1 in a similar manner. For the SC-6 converter, remove its two bottom cover screws, connect a 12″ shielded cable with a right angle connector to the SC-6 CAL.IN, and connect the converter IF coax to the SC-6 IF.OUT. Attach the 6 M injection cable to the SC-6 INJ.OUT. Engage the crystal switch with the fork, slip the converter into the power socket, and secure it with the screws. Connect the other end of the shielded cable to the 6 meter connector on the SCC-1. After installation, slide the CC-1 chassis back into the case and secure it with the mounting screws. Connect a coax cable from the receiver connector on the rear of the CC-1 chassis to the antenna jack of a receiver, ensuring the use of coax cable like RG-58U to avoid interference. Connect an HF antenna to the HF.ANT. connector if HF operation is needed. Finally, plug the power supply into a 120V, 50-60 Hz outlet.

Operation

The selector switch on the front panel of the CC-1 converter console selects the desired “BAND” of operation. In the DIRECT position, signals from an HF antenna are fed directly through the CC-1 to the receiver. Calibration is achieved by pulling the POWER knob ON and the CALIBRATE knob ON. For six meter converter operation, turn the switch to 6M and connect a 6 meter antenna to the 6M converter. Pull the POWER knob ON and the CALIBRATE knob ON for calibration. The SC-6 has two crystals, selected by the 6 meter knob, providing coverage from 50 to 50.5 MHz or from 50.5 to 51 MHz. In the 2M position, operation is similar, with coverage from 144 to 144.5 MHz or from 145 to 145.5 MHz using the 14 – 14.5 MHz IF.
