Installation / Setup
The R. L. Drake Model 1-A receiver is designed for operation from 105 – 125 volts, 60 cycles AC, consuming 50 watts. It should not be used with lower power line frequencies or higher voltages to avoid damaging the power transformer. For mobile use, a 50-watt inverter is required. An external speaker is recommended for fixed station use, while a built-in speaker is available for portable use. The receiver has a 4-ohm output impedance, and connections for external speakers are made via screw terminals on the back.
External muting is advised when the receiver is used with a transmitter. An RCA phono jack is provided for this purpose, which biases the RF tubes to cut off during transmission.
