Manual Overview

The BK Precision 627 CE Carbon Monoxide Meter is designed to measure carbon monoxide (CM) levels in parts per million (PPM) in still ambient air. It uses a catalytic chemical sensor and is suitable for detecting changes in CM levels quickly. The device features a backlit LCD display and is compact for one-hand operation. For troubleshooting, the meter includes a “MAX” hold function to record maximum readings and a “HOLD” function to freeze current readings. Calibration requires zeroing the sensor in fresh air and adjusting with a screwdriver. Error diagnostics include a low battery indicator on the display. The meter should not be used in high CM environments like exhaust streams, as this can damage the sensor. For accurate readings, allow the sensor to stabilize in ambient conditions and avoid rapid temperature changes. The device operates between 32°F to 105°F and 15% to 90% relative humidity.

Quick Issues Covered

  • Calibrate sensor using VR adjustment for accurate zero reading.
  • Low battery indicated by ' =] ' symbol on display.
  • Avoid direct readings in high CM or hot air streams.

Overview

The BK Precision 627 CE is a portable carbon monoxide meter designed to measure low levels of carbon monoxide in parts per million (PPM) in still ambient air. It uses a catalytic chemical sensor and is intended for determining if indoor carbon monoxide levels are higher than outdoor levels and identifying the source. The device features a backlit LCD display and is compact for easy one-hand operation. It quickly detects changes in carbon monoxide levels, with a beeper that sounds faster as concentrations increase, sounding continuously above 200 PPM. The manual provides operating instructions, safety information, and precautions for accurate measurement.

Controls & Indicators

The front-panel controls and indicators include a push button for backlight, a DATA HOLD button, and a MAX HOLD button. The backlight can be turned on and off by pressing the “3” button. The DATA HOLD button allows the user to freeze the current reading on the display, indicated by the “HOLD” annunciator. Pressing the DATA HOLD button again resumes normal operation. The MAX HOLD button records and updates the maximum value detected, indicated by the “MAX” annunciator, and pressing it again exits the MAX HOLD mode.

Operation

The carbon monoxide meter is designed for measuring low levels of carbon monoxide in parts per million (PPM) in still ambient air. It uses a catalytic chemical sensor and is intended for simple one-hand operation. The device features a backlight LCD display and has a maximum reading of 1999. It is important to allow the sensor to stabilize before taking measurements, and the air sample should be stable and within specified temperature and humidity ranges. The meter can be set to “Average” or “Normal” mode for measurements and includes functions such as MAX HOLD and DATA HOLD to record maximum values and hold current readings, respectively. The backlight can be turned on or off with a button, and the sensor should be zeroed in fresh air for accurate readings.

Safety & Warnings

Do not take measurements directly at a tailpipe, in a furnace flue, or at a register. Do not rely solely on a carbon monoxide measurement to determine if a heat exchanger is bad. Do not measure gas engine exhaust or other highly contaminated gases as high levels of carbon monoxide and other contaminants can ruin the sensor. Do not take readings directly in stream of air at a register or in a flue. Allow enough time for the accessory head to reach ambient temperature and relative humidity. Air being measured must be stable and between 0°C and 40°C (32°F and 105°F) and 15%RH and 90%RH. Temperature and humidity changes can cause transient readings. For best results, use a hand pump to sample the air, cool it to near room temperature, and raise the relative humidity.
