The manual for the B&K Model 600 Dyna-Jet Tube Tester provides instructions for setting up the device by selecting the appropriate heater voltage and control positions based on the tube type chart, and it details the operation of testing tubes for shorts, grid emission, and quality using the built-in indicators and meter. It also covers troubleshooting by explaining how to interpret meter deflections during tests, which can indicate issues such as grid contamination or gas presence in the tube.
Manual Overview
The B&K Model 600 Dyna-Jet Tube Tester is designed to test a wide range of tubes, including those used in radio, television, and various industrial applications. It automatically checks for shorts and leakage, with a sensitivity of approximately one megohm, using a neon lamp indicator. The tester also evaluates grid emission and gas, detecting as little as 2 to 8 microamperes of current, which is crucial for identifying issues in TV circuits. Each section of a multi-section tube is tested individually for quality, simulating actual operating conditions to ensure adequate cathode emission.
For troubleshooting, the tube is first checked for shorts by inserting it into the appropriate socket and observing the neon lamp as the switch “C” is rotated. Grid emission and gas tests are conducted by depressing the Grid Emission button; any meter deflection into the reject area indicates a defective tube. The Quality test is performed by pressing the Quality button and checking the meter’s Good-Bad scale. Proper setup involves consulting the tube chart for heater voltage and setting the “A”, “B”, and “C” controls accordingly. Accurate calibration and adjustments are essential to prevent damage, such as filament burnout, by ensuring the correct filament voltage is set before testing.
Quick Issues Covered
- Diagnoses grid emission and gas faults in tubes.
- Detects shorts and leakages using neon lamp indicator.
- Includes schematics for circuit tracing and troubleshooting.
Overview
The Dyna Jet Model 600 Tube Tester is designed to test a wide range of commonly used tubes in radio and television sets, as well as many voltage regulator, thyratron, industrial, and European types found in modern hi-fi equipment. It automatically checks for shorts and leakage, and performs sensitive tests for grid emission, gas, and grid contamination. Each section of a multi-section tube is tested separately, and the quality of a tube is assessed through a cathode emission test under simulated operating conditions. The manual provides instructions for operating the tester, including setting controls based on a chart and performing specific tests for shorts, grid emission, and quality.

Operation
The Dyna Jet Model 600 Tube Tester is designed to test commonly used tubes in radio and television sets, as well as many voltage regulator, thyratron, industrial, and European types of tubes. It automatically checks for shorts and leakage to approximately one megohm, testing each element combination. The tester also performs a sensitive grid current check to detect grid emission, gas, grid contamination, or grid to cathode leakage. Each section of a multi-section tube is checked separately, and tubes are tested for quality by simulating actual operating conditions.
To operate the tester, follow these steps:
1. Insert the line cord into an A.C. socket to turn on the instrument.
2. Look up the tube type in the chart located in the instrument cover.
3. Set the heater switch to the correct voltage as indicated in the chart.
4. Set the “A”, “B”, and “C” controls to the positions indicated in the chart.
5. Insert the tube into the appropriate socket.
6. The tube is automatically tested for grid to cathode shorts and leakage.
7. Depress the Grid Emission button to test for grid emission. A meter deflection into the “grid emission-reject” area indicates a defective tube.
8. If the tube passes the Grid Emission test, proceed to the Quality test by depressing the Quality button and observing the Good-Bad reading on the meter scale.
Caution: Ensure the heater switch is set to the correct filament voltage before inserting the tube to prevent burning out the filament.
