Manual Overview
The Bk Precision COND.-INSTRUCTIONS-MANUAL provides detailed guidance for testing and rejuvenating CRTs using models 480, 490, 467, and 470. The manual emphasizes safety precautions, such as ensuring the CRT’s high voltage supply is discharged before testing. It outlines specific G1 voltage settings based on CRT markings and provides instructions for interchanging controls for certain CRT types. The troubleshooting section includes procedures for testing emission, tracking, life, and focus. If emission is poor, the manual advises proceeding to restoration steps, which involve removing shorts and using the CLEANe BALANCE or REJUVENATE functions. The manual also includes a setup chart for selecting the correct adapter and heater voltage, ensuring accurate testing. Calibration involves setting the G2 control to adjust meter readings, with specific instructions for monochrome CRTs. The manual provides board-level guidance for addressing leakage issues and emphasizes the use of isolation transformers for H-K leakage.
Quick Issues Covered
- Diagnose CRT emission issues with simplified test procedures.
- Adjust G1 voltage based on CRT type for accurate testing.
- Identify and remove G1-K shorts using REMOVE SHORTS button.

Installation / Setup
The setup instructions for the CRT Tester/Rejuvenator models 480, 490, 467, and 470 include several key points. It is important not to apply power to the chassis during CRT testing and to discharge the high voltage supply before connecting the tester. The G1 voltage settings vary based on CRT markings, with specific voltages for different symbols. Adapters for the tester are available by special order. Prefix and suffix letters are generally omitted from CRT types unless specified. Monochrome CRTs should be tested in the RED/B&W position. The setup also includes a chart for heater types and voltages, and a simplified test procedure is provided for models 490 and 467.
Operation
The operation of the CRT Tester/Rejuvenator involves several steps. Initially, all controls should be set fully counterclockwise, and the G2 switch should be set to NORM. The correct adapter and heater voltage should be selected from the setup chart, and the HTR RANGE should be chosen accordingly. After plugging in the tube and power cord, the FUNCTION switch is rotated to SET-UP, and the SET HTR is adjusted to read the specified HTR VOLTS. The G1 voltage is set to 50 volts unless otherwise specified in the setup chart. Leakage lamps are checked for excessive leakage, and if H-K leakage is detected, an isolation transformer should be used. For G1-K leakage, further steps are provided.
In the TEST position, the emission is checked, and if any gun reads BAD, the RESTORE process is initiated. Tracking is assessed by holding the TRACKING button and adjusting the control to set the highest gun at the SET TRACKING mark on the meter. The LIFE test involves observing emission levels and holding the LIFE button until readings stabilize. The FOCUS test is conducted by pushing the FOCUS test button, and the FOCUS OK lamp will glow if the connection is good.
The RESTORE process includes removing shorts, cleaning, balancing, and rejuvenating the picture tube. If G1-K leakage is indicated but the G1-K SHORT lamp does not light, the CLEANe BALANCE step is followed. If the G1-K SHORT lamp lights, the REMOVE SHORTS button is pressed. The REJUVENATE process is used when emission is in the BAD region or if tracking or life cannot be improved by CLEANe BALANCE.
