Manual Overview

The R&S ZVAX24 Quick Start Guide provides essential information for setting up and troubleshooting the extension unit when used with an R&S ZVA24 network analyzer. The guide emphasizes correct RF connections to prevent damage, especially when using high power couplers and external amplifiers. It advises against introducing DC offsets at the test port connectors to avoid measurement impairments and potential damage. Calibration and adjustments are crucial, particularly when using options like the Low Noise Preamplifier and Pulse Modulator. The guide outlines the importance of adhering to maximum RF power limits and suggests using external attenuators or isolators when necessary. For diagnostics, it stresses the importance of following ESD protective measures, such as using a wrist strap and grounding cord. USB connections should be made directly to the network analyzer as per the specified instructions, avoiding any intermediate USB hubs or connections to other hosts. Proper setup and maintenance are critical for optimal performance and safety.

Quick Issues Covered

  • Diagnoses power-up failures and standby state issues.
  • Guides on RF connector setup to prevent signal path errors.
  • Instructions for replacing fuses to resolve power issues.

Safety & Warnings

This R&S ZVAX24 extension unit has been designed and tested in accordance with the EC Certificate of Conformity and has left the manufacturer’s plant in a condition fully complying with safety standards. To maintain this condition and ensure safe operation, observe all instructions and warnings given in the Quick Start Guide, particularly those in chapter 2.

RF Connection:
– Operate the extension unit with an R&S ZVA24 network analyzer. The maximum RF input powers are beyond the RF output power range of the R&S ZVA24, so there is no risk of damage if connected to the test ports without external amplifiers or other active devices.
– Always connect the extension unit as described in chapter 2.1.3, “RF Connectors”.
– The “High Power Coupler Port 1 / 2” options extend the source power range at port 1 and the receiver power range at port 2. External amplifiers may be used to boost RF powers. Observe the maximum RF powers quoted in the data sheets. Maximum RF powers are allowed only if:
– The quoted power handling capability refers to the couplers only. Use external attenuators and/or isolators to prevent damage to other components.
– None of the options R&S ZVAX-B203, R&S ZVAX-B252, and R&S ZVAX-B272 is switched into the RF signal path of port 2.
– The signal at the 3.5 mm test port connectors of the high power couplers must not contain a DC offset.

ESD Protective Measures:
– Use the wrist strap and grounding cord supplied with the network analyzer and connect to the GND connector at the front panel to protect against Electrostatic Discharge (ESD).

USB Connection to the Analyzer:
– The extension unit is intended for direct connection to R&S ZVA24 network analyzers. Do not connect to other USB hosts or insert any USB hubs between the analyzer and the extension unit.
