Manual Overview
The HP 61016A Digitizing Oscilloscope manual provides detailed guidance on troubleshooting, error diagnostics, calibration, and board-level operations. For troubleshooting, the manual emphasizes the importance of grounding the instrument to prevent electrical shock and advises against exceeding input voltage ratings to avoid damage. Error diagnostics are supported by a comprehensive list of error messages in Appendix C, which helps identify and resolve issues efficiently. Calibration and verification procedures are outlined in Appendix B, allowing users to ensure the oscilloscope operates correctly if a malfunction is suspected. The manual also provides board-level guidance, explaining the oscilloscope’s block diagram and detailing the functionality of its components, such as vertical channels, timebase, and triggering mechanisms. The oscilloscope supports a 2-channel, 50-MHz bandwidth with programmable features and parametric measurements, controlled via a personal computer equipped with HP PC Instruments software. The manual includes chapters on manual control, front panel connections, and programming with BASIC, offering a thorough understanding of the oscilloscope’s operation and programming capabilities.

Safety & Warnings
The following safety precautions must be observed during all phases of operation of the HP 61016A Digitizing Oscilloscope:
1. Ground the Instrument: To avoid potentially hazardous electrical shock, establish a safety ground before connecting user’s circuits. Connect the output cable from the Power Pack to the Digitizing Oscilloscope, and then connect the line cord from the Power Pack to the AC line. The circuit or device being measured must have an earth ground at its chassis or ground plane. Do not attempt “floating” measurements with this instrument.
2. Do Not Exceed Input Ratings: Excessive input voltage and current will damage the instrument or its input probe. Do not exceed the “Maximum Input Voltage” specifications listed in Table 1-1 of the guide.
Safety Symbols:
– Instruction guide symbol: Indicates that it is necessary to refer to the guide.
– Measuring earth (ground) terminal symbol.
– WARNING sign: Calls attention to a procedure or practice that could result in personal injury if not correctly performed or adhered to. Do not proceed beyond a WARNING sign until the indicated conditions are fully understood and met.
– CAUTION sign: Calls attention to an operating procedure that could result in damage to or destruction of part or all of the product if not correctly performed or adhered to. Do not proceed beyond a CAUTION sign until the indicated conditions are fully understood and met.
